If you get a chance to go see the Ansel Adams exhibit at the MFA in Boston (http://www.mfa.org) before it ends on January 4th, it is well worth trip. The exhibit encompasses his entire life and has some interesting photographs I’ve never seen before. I was particularly struck by the change in his style over the years. Of course his landscape photographs are amazing and they also had these room screens he made for his friends with his photographs on them. It is hard to imagine him making those huge images with the technology they had. This is a picture I took at Grand Teton National Park overlooking the Snake River which was inspired by Ansel Adams classic picture of this overlook. Notice the tracks in the foreground…I was so focused on the magnificent view I did not even notice the tracks until I got the film back.

This couple had the most beautiful location for their wedding overlooking Moosehead Lake in Maine on Big Squaw Mountain. It was a perfect day…blue skies, big puffy clouds and not too hot. With outodoor weddings you never know, but their day couldn’t have been better (except for one downpour during the reception, which lasted about 2 minutes then cleared). They were a wonderful couple to work with and they had a gorgeous wedding. On the way to their reception at a cabin on the lake we stopped and got some pictures with Mt. Kineo in the background. I love this picture because it really expresses how happy they both were on their wedding day.

For each wedding I am looking back at I am picking my favorite image. Sometimes this is easy and sometimes it is very difficult to choose from so many great pictures. This was by far my favorite from this wedding which took place at John Martin’s Manor in Waterville, Maine. I think this picture shows elegance and is one of those classic wedding pictures.

This was my first wedding of the 2005 season. The ceremony took place at Coburn Park in Skowhegan with a reception at the Lakewood Theater. Because their wedding had a Red Sox theme they received quite a bit of publicity including the Morning Sentinel and the local news station. The day started out overcast and of course it poured right before the bride headed to the park, but then the clouds parted and the sun came out for a gorgeous ceremony. Lakewood Theater is located on a beautiful lake and we got some great photographs with the sunset. They were a great couple to work with, very relaxed and easy going and they loved the pictures!

As I was working on my holiday cards, I realized I had a great winter scenic from our trip to Venice in February. It snowed our first day there…not very common there. Luckily it was just a few inches and it was all gone the next day. I’ve decided to use this picture for some of my holiday cards as well as the other one.

Every year I try to make my own holiday cards to send to family and friends. Some years I am more successful than others. In the past I have procastinated too much and had to resort to sending store bought cards…and last year I didn’t send any:(

This is the photograph I will be using this year. Typically my cards are landscape photographs, but this year I wanted to try something different. I am using Red River Paper, which is a great place to get pre-scored card stock and envelopes. They have all different types of paper and they are very reasonably priced.

You never know when the most amazing sunset is going to happen. The other night I was looking at the cloudy sky and thinking it was going to be a terrible sunset. We had a huge snowstorm the day before and woke to a beautiful clear blue sky that day. I had been kicking myself all day for not going out and photographing some winter snow scenes . As the day progressed, clouds moved in. The sky began to darken around sunset and then the most intense reds and oranges begin to appear and lasted for 5-10 minutes…enough time for me to run and get my camera and snap off a few shots from our porch.
